San Gregorio
San Gregorio, the ancient harbour of the Messapian town “Vereto”, is today one of the most appreciated tourist destinations in south Salento. It is part of the town “Patù” where you can find a very important archeological site and the rural monument “Centopietre”. San Gregorio lies in a very privileged position on the Ionian coast between the elegant Santa Maria di Leuca and the sandy beaches of Torre Vado and Pescoluse. The core of San Gregorio is its little terraced square on the sea where there are bars and restaurants. San Gregorio and its coast with short cliffs and sandy little bays is the ideal destination for either young people and families.
San Gregorio is mostly famous for the panoramic square where you can admire all the bay. Here it is a very appreciated place for swimming, with short rocks and pebbles coves. There is also a free area with a nice grove which is equipped with sun umbrellas and beds. The creek is very nice to swim because its “U” shape protects it from wind. In the little square there are bars and restaurants where it is nice to sit and drink an aperitif looking at the sunset..
